Employment Training and Coaching
Our Impact
At Jack & the Bean, every cup we serve represents growth, learning, and opportunity. Our baristas—adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—are paired with dedicated job coaches who provide one-on-one instruction in communication, customer service, and workplace readiness. Through hands-on experience taking orders, preparing beverages, and operating the cash register, baristas gain valuable skills that build confidence and independence.
Speaking with customers helps strengthen language and social skills while fostering a sense of community belonging. Crafting drinks—from refreshing lemonades to handcrafted espressos and lattes—teaches sequencing, attention to detail, and the ability to follow multi-step directions. Handling cash transactions promotes practical math skills and responsibility, while weekly setup and teardown of the coffee shop reinforce teamwork, time management, and organizational habits.
Our educational approach goes beyond coffee—it’s about empowering individuals to thrive in their work, connect with others, and take meaningful steps toward greater inclusion in their community.
